Gerald Eugene Sloan is an American professional basketball player and coach. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association before starting a 30-year coaching career, 23 of which was the head coach of Utah Jazz. NBA Commissioner David Stern called Sloan "one of the greatest and most respected coaches in NBA history." Sloan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. After playing college basketball with Evansville Purple Aces, Sloan was selected by the Baltimore Bullets with a fourth pick in NBA Draft in 1965. He spent his rookie season with the Bullets before playing the rest of his career. career with Chicago Bulls, retired. due to injury in 1976. Dubbed "The Original Bull", he won two NBA All-Star titles and was the first player to have his shirt number withdrawn by the Bulls.
